Chugging along the famous Franschhoek Valley…

…in the heart of the Cape Winelands is the Franschhoek Wine Tram. A scenic hop-on hop-off tour takes you to wine estates all over the picturesque Franschhoek Valley. With breathtaking scenery, warm hospitality, renowned restaurants and fine wines, the Franschhoek Valley is one of the most pristine wine regions in the world!

The wine tram is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the area as you will endure a unique and leisurely experience through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air-tram-bus stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most prominent wine estates. And the best part is… you don’t need to drive after tasting all the fabulous wine.

The combination of tram and tram-bus allows greater versatility and access to hop-on and off at each stop to experience the activities and wine tastings on offer. The tram lines don’t necessarily run right through the estate front doors so charmingly you get picked up by a vintage tractor for a short trundle through the vineyards between Rocky Bridge and Grand Provence.

Once you get to the end of the line, the magic doesn’t need to stop there. From charming BNB’s to five-star boutiques there are various accommodation options within the Franschhoek Valley region. Sitting on your terrace with a glass of white wine mesmerised by the rolling vineyards or by the crackling fire with a beautiful glass of red, your Cape Winelands experience will be complete.

  • We will definitely be back..

“Honestly would recommend Unearth Experience to anyone, and we have already had quite a few people asking about who organised our trip and passed on your details! We will definitely be back to Africa.”

    Kelly Moreton
  • Spectacular trip...

“What a spectacular trip Rory created for us! He gave such attention to detail; organized several amazing surprises, which really made the trip even more spectacular. There was definitely no shortage of pinch yourself moments on this holiday! From the moment we flew out of Sydney until we arrived back home, Rory was in regular contact with the group to ensure that everything was running smoothly and that we were enjoying our trip. He was able to plan a holiday which caught all the highlights of Africa in a limited amount of time, and gave us the perfect amount of time in each place. We could not recommend Unearth Experience more highly to organise your holiday. Thank you Rory for a once in a lifetime experience!”

  • Going the extra mile...

“Thank you for organizing an amazing holiday! I really appreciate it so much - you went the extra mile to make it so special for us. I don't know where to begin... Londolozi was my highlight - the staff were incredible. Thank you for the special things that was organized like the evening wine tasting, the dinner under the stars (while it was full moon) and the lovely Boma dinner! Oh my goodness, I was so excited and could not believe my eyes. The dinner under the stars was definitely something that I will remember for the rest of my life. My other highlight was locking eyes with a beautiful Leopard about a meter from the vehicle. Rory and Karen - that was unbelievable - I still get shivers thinking of it.”

    Annielie Van Skalkwyk
  • Precious memories...

“We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary this year. I’m going home with precious memories of a very special time, spent with my very special husband, in a very special place. Thank you Rory for making it happen for us.”

“Hello Rory, This is just to say a big Thank you for organizing our trip in South Africa. We had an amazing time in Cape Town: the hotel location was great, the 2 Trips with Gavin were really really nice (what a nice guy !), and finally, the airport connections were nice and smooth. We also had a blast in Jo'burg at the Clico, which was a great haven to rest after our Safari, but also had a really exquisite restaurant and very friendly staff.”

  • Never been so spoilt...

“I have been to South Africa many times over the last 20 years but it was the first visit for my wife Jenny. Jenny absolutely loved the experience she ‘had never been so spoilt’!! I must say for myself that it was probably the most memorable experience. Two weeks is hardly long enough to do South Africa justice but the itinerary you put together was just right for a first visit. All the transport arrangements worked perfectly…The hotels were first class… Londolozi was wonderful - we had an excellent guide and were lucky to have some amazing sightings – I have been on many safaris in the past and this will go down as one of the best!”

  • A million thank you's...

“In the past two weeks, I've learned that you can't truly even begin to understand life when you're only focused on the human aspect of the world. A week spent in the bush connected me to nature in a way I never imagined. It forced me to understand an ecosystem far detached from my comfort zone, and the social constructs of different species that are so similar, yet so different from the human condition. Tracking wild animals on a safari is so much more than a physical pursuit. To track, you need to be present, take clues from your surroundings and venture off into the unknown. If you lose the track, you return to where it started and begin again. It's a conscious effort to utilize skill, patience and intuition to guide you into a world of unbelievable discovery. I leave Londolozi with a heavy heart but a rejuvenated understanding of how to better live. Thank you to my dear tracker Life who found all the beautiful animals for us with his superpower of sight and hearing; my fearless guide Fitz who explained everything in so much detail with vast intelligence, ease and insight; my wingman Bruce who was there when I needed a shoulder and a drinking game ally; and of course my beloved partner in crime, who brought so much love, laughter and light into this journey. Unearth Experience, a million thank you's for curating my trip to this beautiful country and ensuring I was only with the best. Quite literally, this has been a life-changing experience for me.”

“Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by Angels in their flight”

famously quoted by David Livingston when he first set eyes on the Victoria Falls. We agree! And you will too once you set your eyes upon the breathtaking waterfall that is truly one of the greatest natural wonders of the World.

As the vast curtain of falling water rumbles down the 100m crevice, crashing into the gorge below and producing a haze of mist which truly brings the rainforest to life, it provides the perfect experience for adventurers, nature lovers, and family alike.

As you stroll through the rainforest with or without your poncho, you will stop at the various vantage points all of which give you a different perspective of the majestic falls. The Victoria Falls are 1700m wide and are made up of five different ‘falls’ which are known as The Devil’s Cataract, Main Falls, Rainbow Falls, Horseshoe Falls and the Eastern Cataract. You can appreciate each of these falls during your time in the rainforest. Throughout your stroll, you will also witness some incredible vegetation famous to the Zambezi region as well as some wildlife which calls the area home.

Take a break from the mainland…

…and ferry boat over to South African’s famous Robben Island, now hailed as a beacon of hope and forgiveness in the country’s colourful/rich history. Lasting approximately 3 ½ hours (including the ferry ride), guests board a bus from Murry’s Bay Harbor and tour the island with a guide, glimpsing symbols of South Africa’s apartheid-stained past, including a graveyard of lepers, the quarries, Robert Sobukwe’s house, army and navy bunkers and the maximum security prison where Nelson Mandela was detained.

After the bus tour, enter the prison itself on foot with a real ex-prisoner to lease the way and fill your mind with images of what life was like incarcerated on the island. Among many things, this guide will show you cell 4664, where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years of his life, inspiring thousands of prisoners a day and writing his book A Long Walk to Freedom.

As you stroll back to the harbour and catch the ferry to Cape Town, take time to ponder the meaning of freedom along the “freedom walkway” and if you’re lucky, catch the occasional whale breaching the water’s edge in the wake of the boat.
