Fast and Furious!

No, we are not talking about fast cars we are talking about the epic adventure of zip lining. If you want to fly but don’t have the guts to jump out of a plane, bungee jump or hang glide this one is definitely for you. We won’t lie! You will still receive the goosebumps and the hair-raising moments but this is far less insane than the other options.

Before you begin, you will be introduced to your awesome guide and assistant who will very thoroughly go through the entire safety briefing and orientation with you. Once the legal formalities are done, a professional will come and help you with your body harness, pulleys and climbing equipment. They will teach you how to brake if you don’t want to reach those monstrous speeds in less than 5 seconds. Then you’re off.

Once you reach the platform your guide will attach you to the line and before you know it, you’ll be experiencing the adrenalin rush travelling at speeds above 100km per hour hurtling from anywhere between 125m to 2.3km across a gorge, tree canopy or the African desert. Whether you are travelling to South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia or Zimbabwe there are many amazing zip lining opportunities which you can participate in.

As you whoosh down the zip line you will instinctively want to ululate as if you were Tarzan whisking between the treetops.

“Hello Rory, This is just to say a big Thank you for organizing our trip in South Africa. We had an amazing time in Cape Town: the hotel location was great, the 2 Trips with Gavin were really really nice (what a nice guy !), and finally, the airport connections were nice and smooth. We also had a blast in Jo'burg at the Clico, which was a great haven to rest after our Safari, but also had a really exquisite restaurant and very friendly staff.”

“What a spectacular trip Rory created for us! He gave such attention to detail; organized several amazing surprises, which really made the trip even more spectacular. There was definitely no shortage of pinch yourself moments on this holiday! From the moment we flew out of Sydney until we arrived back home, Rory was in regular contact with the group to ensure that everything was running smoothly and that we were enjoying our trip. He was able to plan a holiday which caught all the highlights of Africa in a limited amount of time, and gave us the perfect amount of time in each place. We could not recommend Unearth Experience more highly to organise your holiday. Thank you Rory for a once in a lifetime experience!”

  • Never been so spoilt...

“I have been to South Africa many times over the last 20 years but it was the first visit for my wife Jenny. Jenny absolutely loved the experience she ‘had never been so spoilt’!! I must say for myself that it was probably the most memorable experience. Two weeks is hardly long enough to do South Africa justice but the itinerary you put together was just right for a first visit. All the transport arrangements worked perfectly…The hotels were first class… Londolozi was wonderful - we had an excellent guide and were lucky to have some amazing sightings – I have been on many safaris in the past and this will go down as one of the best!”

“In the past two weeks, I've learned that you can't truly even begin to understand life when you're only focused on the human aspect of the world. A week spent in the bush connected me to nature in a way I never imagined. It forced me to understand an ecosystem far detached from my comfort zone, and the social constructs of different species that are so similar, yet so different from the human condition. Tracking wild animals on a safari is so much more than a physical pursuit. To track, you need to be present, take clues from your surroundings and venture off into the unknown. If you lose the track, you return to where it started and begin again. It's a conscious effort to utilize skill, patience and intuition to guide you into a world of unbelievable discovery. I leave Londolozi with a heavy heart but a rejuvenated understanding of how to better live. Thank you to my dear tracker Life who found all the beautiful animals for us with his superpower of sight and hearing; my fearless guide Fitz who explained everything in so much detail with vast intelligence, ease and insight; my wingman Bruce who was there when I needed a shoulder and a drinking game ally; and of course my beloved partner in crime, who brought so much love, laughter and light into this journey. Unearth Experience, a million thank you's for curating my trip to this beautiful country and ensuring I was only with the best. Quite literally, this has been a life-changing experience for me.”

Three… Two… One… JUMP!

Well, that’s how it’s supposed to go. There are times where this countdown plays on repeat for what feels like hours before you actually have the courage to step off the platform and take the leap.

As the butterflies in your stomach dance to a nervous tune, you contemplate your adrenalin-curious decision, but once you actually take the leap, the lightness takes your break away. Rocketing through the air your mind is cleared with the rushing wind until the elastic cord jolts and you realize that you, in fact, jumped! Enjoying the pendulum swing as the crew begins to lower you into a nearby boat the adrenalin pumps through your body and, somehow, all you can think of is “let’s do it again!”

No matter where you choose to jump, whether it’s Victoria Falls, Tsitsikamma, South Africa or any other country in Africa, the adrenalin buzz lasts for hours afterwards with a great story to tell your friends and family at the dinner table for years.

It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s a microlight…

Glide through the African sky’s whilst experiencing the wind rushing past your face as you relish the 360-degree panoramic views in this open lightweight aircraft.

A microlight is a fixed-wing aircraft with a big motorized fan on the back which can carry up to 2 people. It truly allows you to have a bird’s-eye view of the African landscape, waterways or wildlife down below. You can experience a close encounter with the smoky thunders of the Victoria Falls, the beautiful dolphin coast in Durban or the Rift Valley in Kenya just to name a few.

Typically, you can expect the flying time to be about 15-30mins before you head back to the landing strip. Don’t freak out if your pilot cuts the engine’s power, your stomach will more than likely jump into your throat although you’ll then start to feel the glide as if you were flying like a bird before you hear the roar of the engine taking you back down to earth.

Your mission should you choose to accept it:

Propel and manoeuvre your raft with a paddle through the whitewater river rapids. Sounds simple right? Maybe not… There are many different classes of rapids you can experience, each providing a varying level of difficulty. The classes start at 1 which are the easiest and most recommended for beginners and escalates to class 6 which is known as extreme and exploratory rapids. These we recommend only for the insane! Or highly experienced.

During your white water rafting experience, you are expected to paddle to help get your raft downstream but lucky for you, you will have a whitewater rafting guide in your raft to show you the proper strokes and help if for some reason you get into any danger.

Whether you choose to take on the rapids on the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe, Fish River Canyon in Namibia, Doring River in South Africa, White Nile in Uganda, Rufiji River in Tanzania or the Mangoky River in Madagascar you will not be disappointed by the pounding water pushing your raft down the river. Always remember! Pack a towel with a spare change of dry clothes and shoes. You will get wet! Don’t forget the sun cream!

…as the anticipation of the morning’s expedition brings great excitement to this experience. The crew are waiting eagerly on the beachfront, packed and ready to go. As the sun crests the horizon you have already set off into the vast aqua blue in a specially equipped ski boat, rods at the ready.

Not before long your ears are met by screeching ratchets of the reels going off and the gillie shouting “Fish on, Fish on”. Quickly strapping yourself into the fighting chair you get set for an epic battle of great proportions because this is Billfish waters. Man vs. fish, who wins is never known, each taking line at will as a war of attrition ensues.

At the end one always wins, to the victor goes the spoils, to the loser there is always another day to flight, with a strict tag and release policy means there is always a next time.

“Honestly would recommend Unearth Experience to anyone, and we have already had quite a few people asking about who organised our trip and passed on your details! We will definitely be back to Africa.”

  • Spectacular trip...

  • A million thank you's...
